Jim Caple notes that Wes Littleton's line last week was: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1K. He got a save for his fine work protecting the Rangers' 27 run lead. It's always nice to be in a ballpark when something like that happens, even if you aren't in the ballpark where it is happening.

Do you remember Rick Astley? As I recall, he had a big, fat hit.

You just know that somewhere there is a William S. Burroughs Athletic Club. Too bad they don't have a snappy acronym.

100 Reasons to Hate Derick Jeter. I like Derick Jeter, but I can understand why anyone who hates the Yankees wouldn't. And I was surprised to see that he is taller than Beckham.

I'm somewhat ambivalent about the New York Marathon-- I suppose it would be great to do and all, but logistically I hate contemplating how to get to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for the start, or where to stay. On the other hand, the New York Road Runners also sponsor half marathons in all five boroughs. Brooklyn is in April, and the Bronx is in February-- and Manhattan was this past weekend. The course is a beauty: a lap and a half around Central Park, then down Seventh Avenue past the Carnegie Deli to Times Square, then over to the West Side Highway along the Hudson to the finish at Battery Park.
It's a good day's work, I'd say, and a pretty nifty way to see the city. Admission is by lottery, which sucks, but even so it is worth thinking about.

I didn't have anything that could top the lede in the NYTimes story about Keith's forthcoming memoir: "Let's see how much he remembers." But Scott Ostler's Answer Man column this month is worth memorializing here:
Q: Who’s leading the Tour de France right now?
A: Keith Richards.
The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel meeting included a "Fun Run" and I figured I was acclimated, so I attended, proudly showing the club colors. Nest time I will remember to train for altitude by taking up smoking again. Notwithstanding my performance, the singlet received favorable comment.
