A moment of silence, please, to mark the death of Gunder Hagg, the last man to hold the world record for the mile before the four minute barrier was broken. He was living in a Malmo nursing home; it doesn't say if he was from there. Funny, although I've read a lot about Roger Bannister, I could never have told you who he took the record from, or even that the previous record holder was a Swede.
