ESPN reports that a deal between Houston and Boston which would have sent wicked fat Roger Clemens to Beantown to finish his career was actually in the discussion phase. Ever since Wade Boggs-- another iconic Red Sox player-- sold the Devil Rays the rights to the cap he will wear on his Hall of Fame plaque the question of how the Rocket will be portrayed has nagged. I think it would be funniest if Clemens went in as a Blue Jay, but maybe that's not fair to Toronto. Canadian fans deserve to have a HOF player they can call their own, and that is certainly not Clemens. In fact, even if the trade had come off, even if Clemens pitched the Sox into the ALCS and beyond, I doubt that there would have been much of a chance that his Cooperstown image would bear anything other than the interlocked "NY". Now I would say that's a certainty. Too bad-- Clemens finishing his career with the Scarlet Hose would have made Hub fans insane.
